What is the daily mile?

Deltona Parks & Recreation staff are working hard to make sure Deltona residents lead a healthy lifestyle. Their new program, “The Daily Mile” encourages residents to walk at least one mile a day. Medical experts say that just one brisk walk per day, helps you maintain a healthy weight; prevents health conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure and Type 2 diabetes; strengthens bones and muscles; improves mood, balance and coordination.

Those interested can join Coach Sebastian Singletary at 6 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays (beginning Oct. 6) at Wes Crile Park. Residents who’d like to go the “extra mile” will learn how incorporating some basic exercises can improve ones overall fitness. Its really easy to get a great workout anywhere, anytime, using just the weight of your own body.

Residents are encouraged to walk at least three more miles-per day, each week, and share their goals and progress on social media using the hashtags #DeltonasDailyMile #ItStartsInParks. For more information call the Wes Crile Gym Office, (386) 878-8940 or email ssingletary@deltonafl.gov. Wes Crile is located at 1537 Norbert Terrace.
