Why is there a charge for Streetlighting on my property tax bill?

The assessment is charged to cover the costs of maintaining and improving streetlighting throughout each district. The City Commission sets the assessment rate each year, and holds hearings that are open to the public before voting on the rate. Streetlighting services benefit every taxpayer within each district, so individual taxpayers may not opt out of streetlighting districts.
