Deltona Parks & Recreation will begin its next youth basketball league in December. The “Holiday Hoops” league will be offered for children ages 6 to 14. All skill levels are welcome. Teams are co-ed. Players will play at least eight games on Saturdays, beginning Dec. 12, with a tournament to follow. Teams will be given scheduled court times for practice during the week. Registration is ongoing online in the Parks Payment Portal until 5 p.m., Dec. 3. Evaluations will be Dec. 5. Registration is $25 and cash or check is acceptable. Players will be given a jersey but should have their own black or dark colored shorts.
Safety protocols will be in place for league games. All spectators and coaches must wear a mask in the gym. Only two family members per player (currently involved in a game) will be permitted in the gym. There will be 20 minute breaks between games to allow for sanitization. Hand sanitizing stations are available.
Coaches are also needed for the league. Coaches should be at least 18 years of age and must complete a volunteer application which will include a background check. Coaches should be available at least one night a week and Saturday mornings in December, January and February and will coach children ages 6 to 14. Approved coaches will get a one player discount. If you are interested in providing this valuable service to our community, or if you have other questions about the league, please email Sebastian Singletary or call (386) 878-8940.
