Why is there a charge for Solid Waste on my property tax bill?

A Solid Waste assessment is charged to cover the costs of trash collection and disposal. The City Commission sets the assessment rate each year, and holds hearings that are open to the public before voting on the rate. Solid Waste service is provided by the City through a contracted vendor and taxpayers may not opt out of solid waste collections.
